Fishing Expansion

The Fishing Expansion greatly expands what can be discovered beneath Enigma's oceans.

Fishing is no longer only about pulling fish from the water. New encounters, improved Fishing BODs, specialized nets, treasure-bearing sea creatures, bait, hooks, rare rewards, and dangerous ocean enemies now give fishermen much more to discover.

Whether you are fishing from shore or sailing across the seas, there is always a chance that something unusual is waiting below.

Fishing BODs

Fishing Bulk Order Deeds have received a major update, with a much wider selection of fish and adjustments to make them significantly more practical to complete.

Fishing BOD Improvements

  • Generic fish can now appear in Fishing BODs
  • BOD requirements have been expanded and adjusted
  • Rewards scale with the completed order
  • Fishing reward satchels can contain useful fishing equipment and rewards

The goal is to make Fishing BODs something fishermen can actively work toward rather than orders that remain unfinished indefinitely.

Affinity Nets

New Affinity Fishing Nets can be discovered and used throughout the Fishing system. Affinity Nets are specialized nets connected to different types of ocean encounters and can summon significantly more dangerous creatures than ordinary fishing nets.

Affinity Net encounters can be dangerous. The creatures summoned by these nets are intended for prepared fishermen and adventurers rather than freshly trained characters.

Defeating powerful net guardians can provide access to improved fishing rewards and rare loot.

Fishing Nets & Ocean Guardians

Fishing Net encounters have been updated to provide a greater challenge. Several creatures associated with ocean encounters have been strengthened, including powerful Net Guardians and the legendary Leviathan — some of the most dangerous encounters available through Fishing.

The strongest ocean creatures have improved access to higher quality fishing rewards. Powerful enemies such as the Leviathan can provide rewards of at least Rare quality.

Sea Serpents

Sea Serpents have received a major overhaul. Both normal and Deep Sea Serpents can now carry a wider variety of treasure.

Sea Serpent Changes

  • Treasure carried can vary from minor to exceptionally valuable
  • The strength of the serpent can scale with the treasure it carries
  • Different hues can indicate stronger variants
  • Both serpent types have a chance to appear as Storm-Born

A serpent carrying powerful treasure may therefore be considerably more dangerous than an ordinary encounter.

Storm-Born Creatures

Some creatures encountered while fishing can emerge as rare Storm-Born variants — unusual ocean enemies with increased danger and a distinctive appearance, intended to make even familiar fishing encounters occasionally unpredictable.

Never assume every Sea Serpent pulled from the ocean will be an ordinary one.

Messages in Bottles

Messages in Bottles, commonly known as MiBs, remain an important part of Fishing but have been adjusted as part of the expansion.

MiBs are now considerably rarer than before, making each discovery more meaningful.

Messages in Bottles can lead fishermen to hidden locations containing SOS treasure beneath the ocean.

SOS Treasure

SOS locations allow fishermen to recover treasure from specific locations at sea. The SOS system has received additional persistence and safety work to ensure active treasure locations survive normal server saves and restarts correctly.

An active SOS should not be lost simply because the server saves or restarts.

Fishing at an SOS location may also lead to dangerous encounters before the treasure can be recovered.

Hooks

Fishing Hooks have been expanded and can now interact with a broader portion of the Fishing system. Hooks are no longer focused only around Messages in Bottles and can influence additional fishing opportunities.

Different hooks can provide fishermen with another way to specialize what they are searching for while at sea.

Fishing Bait

Fishing Poles can now make use of Bait, giving fishermen another way to influence their fishing experience and target different parts of the expanded Fishing system.

Keep an eye on the bait attached to your fishing pole before heading out onto the ocean.

Rare Ocean Encounters

Fishing can now lead to more than ordinary fish and Sea Serpents. Rare encounters have been added throughout the system, giving fishermen a chance to discover unusual creatures while exploring Enigma's oceans. Some encounters may be substantially stronger than standard fishing enemies and can provide improved rewards.

The ocean is intentionally unpredictable. Not every rare encounter will appear frequently, and some may take considerable fishing before they are discovered.

Clams & Pearls

Fishermen may occasionally recover Clams while fishing. Most clams contain nothing unusual, but some can contain valuable Pearls in a variety of colors and rarities.

Rare Ember Clams provide a significantly greater chance of discovering special Red and Orange Pearls.

Pearls have uses beyond Fishing and are an important part of Enigma's crafting and Pearl Enameling systems.

Fishing Rewards

The Fishing Expansion introduces and improves a wide range of possible rewards.

Equipment

  • Fishing BOD rewards
  • Fishing Hooks
  • Fishing Bait

Treasure

  • Treasure Maps
  • Messages in Bottles
  • SOS treasure
  • Clams and Pearls

Encounters

  • Affinity Nets
  • Rare ocean loot
  • Rewards from powerful ocean creatures

The most dangerous encounters generally provide access to the strongest reward pools.

Prepare for the Ocean

Fishing remains accessible to anyone with a fishing pole, but the deeper systems are designed to reward dedicated fishermen.

A quiet fishing trip can quickly turn into a battle with a powerful Sea Serpent, an unusual Storm-Born creature, a dangerous Net Guardian, or something even rarer.

Bring your fishing equipment. Bring a boat. And perhaps bring a weapon.

The oceans of Enigma have become much more interesting.
