UO Enigma – Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to UO Enigma! To ensure a fun and fair experience for everyone, we ask that all players adhere to the following rules and guidelines. We want to remind you that UO Enigma is a passion project and our hobby, driven on our free time. Please respect this.

These rules are subject to change, so please stay updated.

1. Fair Play

  • No Cheating or Exploiting: Exploiting, taking advantage of map glitches, manipulating game mechanics in unintended ways, or using unauthorized third-party software is strictly prohibited. Any program that provides an unfair advantage is considered illegal. Any item or advantage obtained by exploiting will be removed, the character may be deleted, and the IP may be banned, depending on severity. Report all bugs and exploits found.
  • Account Limit: 2 accounts are allowed. We will ban and delete any more that we find, without reaching out. This is your own responsibility to uphold.
  • No Account Sharing: Your account is your responsibility. Sharing it with others is not permitted and can result in issues such as cheating or account theft.

No Griefing: This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Using dead characters to monitor and scout areas.
  • Creating or using offensive or inappropriate character names, guild titles, or pet names.
  • Intentionally trapping players in locations with unmovable objects to prevent their escape.
  • Excessive harassment, targeted negative behavior, or any action that interferes with the ability of other players to enjoy the game.

2. Game Conduct

  • Follow In-Game Mechanics: Play the game as it is intended. Do not attempt to alter the game world in unauthorized ways, including modifying game files or using unsupported clients.
  • No Spamming: Do not spam chat channels with repeated messages, advertisements, or any other disruptive content.
  • PvP Conduct: While Player vs. Player combat is a core part of the game, it should be approached with fairness. Ganking or camping players without giving them a chance to recover is discouraged. Multi-client PvP is strictly prohibited.

3. Community Interaction

  • Report Issues: If you encounter a bug, exploit, or another player breaking the rules, report it to the staff immediately.

4. Staff Interaction

  • Respect the Staff: Our staff members are here to help. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of staff abuse, including harassment or verbal assault.
  • No Impersonation: Do not impersonate staff or claim to have authority you do not possess. Any attempts to impersonate staff will result in an immediate and irreversible ban.

5. AFK Gathering / Unattended Gameplay

Automated gameplay is permitted only where specifically allowed by shard systems and rules. Players remain responsible for their characters at all times.

Characters may not engage in activities that generate gold, loot, leaderboard progress, or other meaningful progression while the player is absent from the keyboard, even if the player is not actively collecting the generated items.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • AFK dungeon farming
  • AFK leaderboard progression
  • AFK participation in events or other progression-based activities

Players who need to step away from their computer should ensure their character is no longer causing items to be generated or actively progressing in any way before doing so.

AFK Resource Gathering: Resource gathering activities such as fishing, mining, and lumberjacking may be automated where permitted. These activities are monitored through periodic attendance verification gumps. Players are expected to respond to these checks when presented. Any attempt to bypass or circumvent these verification systems is prohibited.

Staff may contact players to verify attendance. Failure to respond within a reasonable period (no less than 3 minutes) may result in penalties ranging from temporary jailing or removal of gains to permanent account action for repeat offenses.

6. Character & Pet Naming Guidelines

  • Naming Standards: Names for characters, pets, and other entities should be appropriate and inoffensive. Names that are racially motivated, sexually graphic, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate will result in disciplinary action, including forced renaming or account termination for repeat offenses.

7. Griefing

  • UO Enigma is a Felucca-style shard. Player killing, theft, looting, guild wars, territorial disputes, dungeon control, and other PvP activities are allowed and encouraged.
  • Griefing is defined as behavior intended primarily to harass another player or prevent them from reasonably participating in the game. Examples include:
  • Repeatedly killing the same player with no meaningful in-game objective.
  • Following a player across multiple locations solely to harass them.
  • Trapping players in an unfair manner.
  • Blocking events, resurrection shrines, or other important game locations.
  • Using ghosts or other mechanics to provide unintended intelligence or monitor areas in a manner that circumvents intended gameplay.
  • Excessive verbal harassment.
  • Players are expected to make reasonable efforts to avoid continued conflict. Returning repeatedly to an area occupied or controlled by hostile players, re-engaging after being defeated, or otherwise placing yourself back into an active PvP situation does not make subsequent kills griefing.
  • Staff will evaluate the overall circumstances and may take action when behavior is determined to be harassment rather than legitimate gameplay.

8. Consequences

  • Rule Violations: Violations of these rules may result in warnings, jail, temporary suspensions, removal of gains, or permanent bans, depending on the severity and frequency of the offense, as determined by the staff.
  • Jail Procedure: Players jailed by staff must contact staff through Discord to request release. Jail is used to stop ongoing rule violations and ensure players understand the applicable rules before returning to gameplay. Automatic jailings resulting from the attendance verification system are exempt from this requirement, though contacting staff may result in a reduced sentence at staff discretion.
  • Staff Decisions: Staff members work together as a team and support one another's decisions. Disciplinary actions are discussed internally when appropriate. The server owner, MrRiots, has final authority over all staff decisions and server administration.
  • Reporting Staff Misconduct: If you believe a staff member has acted dishonestly, abused their authority, or violated server rules, you may report the matter directly to MrRiots for review. Disagreements over rule enforcement or disciplinary actions alone do not constitute staff misconduct.

9. Real Money Trading (RMT)

Buying or selling in-game items, gold, or accounts for real-world currency is strictly prohibited. This is for the players own sake and the server health. If we get information about this it will result in disciplinary action up to and including a permanent ban.

10. Illegal Items

Items found that are not era accurate and found are to be deleted. Yes, it may hurt but its for the server balance. Some items that are not era accurate but not “useful” may still be around, used as rares and /or decorations.

11. Enjoy the Game!

Remember, the ultimate goal is to have fun and enjoy the world of UO Enigma. Play fair, be respectful, and help create a community that everyone can enjoy.

Note: The Enigma staff cannot replace lost items, tamed creatures, account-bound system points, or deleted characters or accounts.

By playing on UO Enigma, you agree to abide by these rules. Let's work together to create an enjoyable gaming experience for all!
