Ships

Overview

Ships in this expansion support:

  • Cannon hardpoints and cannon caps
  • Ship security ranks (who can pilot/fire/manage)
  • Ship naming via the tillerman
  • Scuttle state (disables/limits key behaviors)
  • A ship health system + HUD (see Ship Health HUD)

Key Ship Concepts

Ship Hold

Most ship resources are stored in the Ship Hold. Cannons will pull required firing resources from:

  1. fixture containers (if present)
  2. the Ship Hold (primary)
  3. the cannon itself (fallback)

Cannon Hardpoints

Ships have defined cannon locations. You can only place cannons at valid positions for that ship.

Security / Roles

Ships enforce access by security level. Common player-facing roles include:

  • Passenger (basic access)
  • Crewman (can operate ship systems like cannons, if allowed)
  • Officer/Co-Owner (higher management)
  • Owner (full control)

(Exact role names depend on your base ship security implementation.)

Ship Naming (Tiller Man)

Ships display their name through the tillerman label. Owners can rename the ship through the tillerman context menu (rules: must be authorized and on/near ship).

Scuttle State

Ships can be scuttled. When scuttled, ships generally:

  • cannot be used normally for combat/movement (rules shard-dependent)
  • should not be wasting ammo or allowing certain actions

Ships Included (Verified in content)

This wiki documents ships present in the naval expansion content folder, including:

  • Raider Longship
  • Fishing Boat
  • Additional ship variants in the Open Seas ship folder (small/medium/large and themed variants)

NOTE: If your live shard advertises additional ships (ex: Battle Catamaran) but they are not in this content set, document them here once confirmed in scripts.

Deeds, Placing, Docking

Ships are placed via deeds and can be docked back into deed form depending on type. Placement requirements (water depth, regions, block rules) follow your shard’s boat placement rules.

Player Tips

  • Keep Powder Charges + Fuse Cords + ammo stocked in the Ship Hold.
  • Use the Ship Health HUD during combat to time repairs and retreats.
  • If you cannot fire a cannon, check your security rank and your distance to the cannon.
